Low-Interest Mortgage Program

This program provides an opportunity for first-time homebuyers with low to moderate incomes to purchase in Arlington, by providing below-market-rate mortgages with as little as 1% down. Since 2005, the program has helped more than 280 families purchase their first homes in Arlington.

Moderate Income Purchase Assistance Program (MIPAP)

This program helps first-time homebuyers purchase in Arlington by providing a deferred-payment, zero-interest second trust mortgage of up to 25% of the home purchase price. Funding for the program is allocated by lottery. Find out about income requirements, maximum loan amounts and repayment terms.

Real Estate Tax Relief Program

The County’s Real Estate Tax Relief Program provides an exemption and/or deferral of real estate taxes for eligible Arlington homeowners who are age 65 and older, or totally and permanently disabled.

Prevention Steps and Counseling

Free counseling and other services are available to help homeowners avoid foreclosure and stay in their homes. Legal services, tax relief and other financial assistance programs are available to eligible homeowners, as well as assistance with food and other basic needs during times of financial hardship.

Home Improvement Program (HIP)

AHC no longer actively serves the HIP program. They will continue to maintain existing customer’s accounts but will not be adding any new clients. A partnership between the Housing Division and AHC, Inc., this program provides low-interest loans and grants for people with low to moderate incomes.

Rebuilding Together

Rebuilding Together assists income-eligible homeowners with home maintenance and repair. The program brings volunteers, communities and resources together to repair and rehabilitate homes free of cost for those in need, including the elderly, persons with disabilities, military veterans and families with children.

Natural Disaster Home Repairs

If your property sustained major damage from a storm or other natural disaster, and a permit may be required for repairs, request an inspection by calling 703-228-3800. County inspectors can assess structural damages to the property, as well as damages to electrical, gas, plumbing and HVAC systems.
